Got a question or a scam we missed? We read everything.
For any question — refunds, accuracy concerns, technical issues, accessibility — reach us at isitascam2@pm.me. We aim to respond within 1 business day.
Is It A Scam? uses Anthropic's Claude AI to analyze messages for known scam patterns — urgent language, suspicious links, unusual requests, sender impersonation, and more. It's designed to err on the side of caution: it would rather flag a borderline message as suspicious than miss a real scam. No detection tool is 100% accurate. If something feels off, trust your instincts and verify through official channels (call the company directly using a number from their official website, not from the message).
Every new user gets 3 free scam checks — no credit card required. After your 3 checks are used, you'll see a paywall where you can subscribe for unlimited checks. The free checks are lifetime, not monthly.
After your 3 free checks, the app will show a subscription screen. Tap "Continue" and confirm with your Apple ID. The subscription is managed by Apple — you can cancel anytime in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone.
On your iPhone: open Settings → tap your name at the top → tap Subscriptions → tap Is It A Scam? → tap Cancel Subscription. You'll keep access until the end of your billing period.
Refunds for App Store subscriptions are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, and request a refund for the relevant purchase. Apple usually responds within 24-48 hours.
Yes. Your messages are sent over HTTPS to our analysis proxy and forwarded to Anthropic's Claude AI for analysis. Per Anthropic's API terms, content is never used for training. We don't store your messages on our servers — once analysis is done, they're forgotten. We don't track you, don't show you ads, don't sell your data. Read more in our privacy policy.
If you think a verdict was wrong — for example, the app flagged a real message as a scam, or missed an obvious scam — please email us at isitascam2@pm.me with as much detail as you can share. We use real-world feedback to improve detection.
The "Take a Photo" feature uses your camera to capture a suspicious letter, email, or message displayed on another screen. The "Pick a Screenshot" feature reads photos from your library so the AI can analyze the text in screenshots you've saved. We only access photos you select, not your whole library, and we never upload or store your photos beyond the one-time analysis call.
No — Is It A Scam? needs an internet connection to send your message to our AI for analysis. Without internet, the app will show a connection error.
No. Is It A Scam? is a fast-acting tool to help you spot likely scams in everyday messages. For serious financial or identity concerns, contact your bank, the police, or a licensed cybersecurity professional. If you've been a victim of a scam, report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (ic3.gov) and the FTC (reportfraud.ftc.gov).
Yes — Is It A Scam? respects your iPhone's Dynamic Type setting. To adjust system text size: Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size. Or use the universal accessibility shortcut: Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size → Larger Text. The app also works with VoiceOver.
