Freeze-dried Orexin-A powder is stable 1-2 years room temperature (protected from light/moisture), indefinitely when refrigerated (2-8°C). Reconstituted solution lasts 2-4 weeks refrigerated in darkness. Never freeze reconstituted solution (denatures peptide). Store in cool, dark location; protect from light, heat, and moisture.

Freeze-Dried Powder Storage

Optimal conditions: room temperature (18-25°C), darkness, low humidity (<50%), sealed original container. Shelf-life: 1-2 years room temperature, indefinitely refrigerated (2-8°C). Light exposure (especially UV) accelerates degradation; keep in original opaque container or dark cupboard. Moisture causes peptide hydration and denaturation; keep desiccant packets inside or use vacuum-sealed containers for long-term storage.

Reconstituted Solution Storage

Refrigerate immediately (2-8°C) in darkness (opaque container or wrapped in foil). Stability: 2-4 weeks depending on diluent (bacteriostatic water extends to 3-4 weeks; normal saline ~2 weeks). Never freeze reconstituted solution (freezing denatures proteins, causes precipitation, makes solution non-viable). Do not store at room temperature (bacterial growth, peptide degradation).

Protection from Light

Light (especially UV) causes peptide photodegradation. Use opaque/amber vials for reconstituted solution storage. Wrap original containers in foil if storing in non-dark cupboards. Keep away from sunny windows or bright lights. This protection is particularly important for long-term storage (weeks to months).

Temperature Management

Freeze-dried: room temperature acceptable (18-25°C); avoid extreme heat (>30°C). Reconstituted: must be refrigerated (2-8°C). Never expose to temperatures >30°C for extended periods (denatures peptide). Never freeze (<0°C) reconstituted solution. Thermal stability is temperature-dependent; cool storage significantly extends shelf-life.

Humidity Control

Freeze-dried powder is moisture-sensitive. Store in low-humidity environment (<50% RH ideally). Use desiccant packets inside storage containers to absorb moisture. Avoid bathrooms or damp kitchens. If powder is exposed to humidity and becomes clumpy or discolored, it may be degraded and should not be reconstituted.

Container and Vial Selection

Use original sealed vials when received (already optimized for protection). For long-term storage, transfer to vacuum-sealed containers or use with desiccant packs. Glass is superior to plastic for long-term storage (plastic can leach chemicals or allow micro-permeation). Labeled containers with date of receipt prevent use of aged material.

Reconstituted Solution Organization

If making multiple-dose vials (for weekly use), label with reconstitution date and expected expiration date. Use separate sterile syringe for each withdrawal (prevents contamination and oxidation). Store at back of fridge (coldest zone), away from fridge door (temperature fluctuations). Check solution visually before each use (should be clear, colorless or pale yellow—discard if cloudy/discolored).

Signs of Degradation

Powder: visible discoloration (yellowing, browning), clumping, unusual odor. Reconstituted solution: cloudiness, precipitation, discoloration (darker yellow/brown), visible particles. Any sign of degradation = discard (peptide is denatured, may not be bioactive, possible contamination).

Traveling with Orexin-A

Reconstituted solution: use insulated container with ice packs to maintain cool temperature during travel. Flight travel: check airline policies on injectable medications; typically allowed in carry-on with proper documentation. Declare at customs if traveling internationally; regulations vary by country.

Long-Term Storage Beyond 1-2 Years

If storing powder >2 years, use refrigeration (2-8°C) in sealed, dark containers with desiccant. Check annually for visible signs of degradation. After 2-3 years, even with optimal storage, small degradation is likely; younger stock is preferable. For critical uses, buy fresh stock rather than rely on aged inventory.

Disposal of Expired or Unused Product

Properly dispose of expired peptides per local regulations (pharmacies often accept pharmaceutical waste; some areas have hazmat disposal programs). Do not pour down drain (water contamination concerns). Do not throw in regular trash (environmental concerns). Inquire with waste management or pharmacy about proper disposal.

Documentation and Batch Tracking

Record supplier, batch number, reconstitution date, and expiration date on stored vials. This allows tracking of quality and shelf-life across batches. If a batch performs poorly, documentation helps identify issue patterns.
